How should I prepare for the procedure?

You may be asked to wear a gown during the examination. Guidelines about eating and drinking before a CT exam vary with the specific exam and also with the facility. Unless you are told otherwise, you may follow your regular daily routine and take medications as usual.

CT scan without injection of contrast:

  • Arrive at the clinic 15 minutes before your appointment
  • no fasting necessary

CT scan with injection of contrast:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment
  • 3 hours fasting
  • Take medications as usual with a little water
